Zone-ology
One of the greatest breakthroughs from Pat Parelli is Zone-ology where the horses body is divided into zones.
Knowing a horse’s zones makes it easy to get in the right position.
This has made being in the right position at the right time easy! It also makes it easy to explain where to be in relation to the horse to effect certain responses, and it sets up an easy diagnostic system for determining what zones do and don’t “work” with the first three games (Friendly, Porcupine, Driving) on a horse. Then you know the areas you have to spend more time with.
Methodically explore the zones with Games 1, 2 & 3.
Make sure they all respond!
Get to know these zones thoroughly.
The front legs fall into zone 3 and the hind legs into zone 4.
The horse’s hindquarters, including under the tail are zone 4.
Zones 1, 4 and the delicate zone also have an inside: inside the mouth, the ears and the anus.
